The Quill and Quilt is here for you to enjoy as your home away from home, and we look forward to your stay with us!! What follows on this page is some of what you can expect to find, or not find, when you visit our home and Cannon Falls. Let's start with where we are located in relation to some popular Cannon Falls destinations. The new (2011) Cannon Valley Trail Trailhead is located just across the way and you can ride on a paved city trail that leads to it (about 200 yards). The Cannon River Winery is just a block away and is the first establishment you will see when crossing The Mill Street Bridge upon leaving our house. And the main section of Downtown Cannon Falls starts at that point the district is all within 1-2 blocks where there are a few restaurants and a variety of shops and services. The city has a system of trails which connect to this end of the Cannon Valley Trail, where "The Falls" can be seen (about one block from our house and located under the Mill Street Bridge). This part of the trail leads past the swan and trout pond area, and can be followed along the Little Cannon River, or over to the Cannon Valley Trail which leads to Red Wing, or the other way along the Cannon River, and over toward Hannah's Bend Park which also has a Frisbee golf course. Or, you go around the pond, and up and over the Cannon River to where they rent canoes, kayaks, bicycles and rafts at reasonable rates, Cannon Falls Canoe and Bike Rental.

Like most bed & breakfast establishments we have some rules, but the really big one we have is all about fire. There are no open flames allowed, and no smoking is allowed. We do provide LED tea lights in the rooms. You can bring/use all the flameless candles that you want. The spa suite, where massage and spa services are performed, is a private and separate room in the house. This arrangement allows uninterrupted access to your guest room, even as your partner experiences the spa suite. There are very few traditional bed & breakfasts in the region offering massage services performed in this way. More information is available at www.quillandquilt.com/spa.html. When reserving online we offer you the convenience of enhancing your stay with services and products. This ranges from Cannon Valley Trail Passes to Spa Services to Flowers or a Wine Tasting. We encourage you to consider these options. We also want you to know that we are allergy aware. To that end, in addition to our no smoking policy, there are no pets of any kind that live on the premises, and pets are not permitted in the house. We also use all natural and fragrance free cleaning products for laundry, dishes and general cleaning. Our pillows, comforters, and beds do not contain feathers. Guests with dogs are encouraged to contact the Waggin' on Inn as they provide excellent boarding services for dogs. One of several amenities at the Quill & Quilt that has a positive environmental impact is the 24/7 hot & cold drinking water which also happens to be accompanied by an excellent selection of tea. You can read all about our green policy here

The house itself was built in 1897 and a lot of the original beauty has been preserved. Further, we have done our best to preserve the spirit of its Colonial Revival architectural style, through placement of period items and choices while remodeling and decorating. Yet in the interest of safety, comfort and luxury, we have chosen to install modern electrical service & wiring; a fire alarm system; modern plumbing and fixtures; and added a whirlpool, showers, HDTV & DVD, Coffee makers, and hairdryers to all guest rooms. Oh, and we offer Wi-Fi throughout. You will find that we take an approach to respecting your privacy and providing a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. There are comfortable areas inside and outside the house where you can enjoy your stay beyond your guest room. And, the library is stocked with magazines, DVDs, books and some games for you to enjoy during your stay. For these reasons and many others, we believe your stay here will be lovely regardless of the room that you choose.

As far as breakfast goes, it is hearty & fresh, and made using many locally produced ingredients. We strive to serve you a variety of tasty and creative menu items, using ingredients from the traditional breakfast table. The result is a seasonally rotated menu that includes creations based on fluffy baked eggs, fruit, breakfast meats, and homemade pastries - plus we always have plenty of fresh ground coffee. Full breakfast is served in the dining room at 9:30 A.M on Saturday & Sunday mornings. If you are visiting us on a weekday (Sun-Thurs Nights), breakfast is generally provided by our friends at The Old Market Deli down the street where you will have many excellent food choices, and you can choose your time. We do not serve breakfast in the guest rooms.
*On the weekends, you may also choose to have a continental basket delivered to your room, which generally consists of fresh pastries, fruit, and juice.
